I learned several things from the two books. For one, I learned what exactly is a multimodal project. These projects involve 5 key parts: linguistic mode, visual mode, aural mode, gestural mode, and the spatial mode. In addition, all of these modes should work together to convey an idea that the author has in mind. Also, we should perform a rhetorical analysis of the various forms of media that we use.
From the first chapter of the Carrol book, I learned a very important process of how to write. I was given a writers process that I hope to take advantage of in the future. On the other hand, the second chapter analyzed the changes that digital media brought to writing. While the role of the author remains virtually the same as before, the way in which the author provides information has greatly changed. For one, information now comes in a matrix form that intertwines many different forms of media and sources. In addition, due to the nature of our digital era, it is extremely important for digital writing to immediately capture the attention of the reader.
