A REFLECTIVE REALITY

1. As a young adult, what drove you to seek employment outside of your country? 2. It seems as if the Indian community as a whole is heavily STEM focused. How did this affect you as you were growing up? 3. When you first moved to America, how was assimilating into the culture? How did your coworkers treat you and how different was life from back in India? 4. Did 9/11 impact the way you were treated in the American community and if so, how did it impact your professional and personal life? 5. In my research, I read that the temple is the center of social life in America for Indian immigrants. I would like to know how true this fact is and how important was the temple to you and how it impacted your family life. 6. As a person who lived in two different countries, how different are the values of an Indian and an American? Since you watched your children grow in the intersections of both cultures, I would like to know how these two cultures melded for them. 7. You went through the long and arduous immigration process all the way to the point where you obtained your citizenship. How did this process affect your personal and professional life? Do you think this process serves as a filter resulting in only a certain type of person coming here? I plan to ask these questions of my Father or my Uncle as they both experience their childhood and college years in India but moved to America and eventually became citizens here.
